Arizona State University's Alliance for Construction Excellence has expanded its core training program with a new approach to on-site training.
In addition to its 60-hour construction management and project management certificate programs that run once a week, ACE is launching in-house programs for employers. So far, ACE has customized condensed programs for Arizona Public Service Co., Cox Communications and the city of Surprise.
The APS program ran over five consecutive days, but ACE also will schedule classes to meet the needs of companies that don't want their employees off the job for a solid week.
Because the learning experience is enhanced when the class is made up of people from different companies, positions and backgrounds ACE likes to work with 15 in-house employees and fill the other half of its seats with industry professionals from other organizations, said ACE assistant professor of research Tom Schleifer.
"In times of tight budgets, enlightened employers understand the route to efficiency and profitability is through continuing education and training," said Gary Aller, director of ACE. "It's our job to make sure that our programs continue to be effective recruitment and retention tools while keeping them relevant and applicable to many different scenarios."
ACE's construction management certificate program focuses on business, technical and field aspects of the construction business. The project management certificate program addresses project management skill sets such as leadership, team building and quality measurement.
